It's always interesting to read about your home country, its people and its customs through the eyes of an 'involuntary expat' living there. But never have I seen it infused with such humor and personality.Claudio Silvahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352999056750271738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8512022050229968490.post-6152777791644901942011-11-13T22:41:00.283+01:002011-11-13T22:41:00.283+01:00So that my regular readers can appreciate the cont...So that my regular readers can appreciate the context of Jana's comment, I paste right at the bottom the comment I left on her blog.

There used to be a country called Czechoslovakia and the Czechs loved the Slovaks as much as the Scottish and the Irish love the English. The SNP derive a lot of inspiration from the fact the where once there was once one country, now there are two, the Czech Republic and Slovakia but in both countries, you can still order the original Pilsner lager (which the Germans claimed to have invented but didn’t but, as a German I would say they perfected) by asking for a Pivo.

Now the comment I posted on Jana’s blog:

As an aside, years ago I sold motorcycles.

I had a big order from a guy in Bratislava (which is the capital of what is now Slovakia) so got it together and drove all day through Germany and all night through Austria and finally got across the border and into Bratislava. I was gagging for food and coffee, even, at that early hour, a Pivo so I pulled up in front of a restaurant.

The waiter came up and offered me a menu.

'No' I said sweeping the menu away. 'Just bring me a typical Czech meal'.

Snapping the menu shut with a flourish and turning on his heel, the waiter growled.

'Go to Prague'Hippohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09468795398813061897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8512022050229968490.post-30343180879575850872011-11-13T20:09:18.908+01:002011-11-13T20:09:18.908+01:00Hi Tom, Thanks for your friendly comment!
